Sowing Seeds in Every Season of Life

Here is a devotion created based on 2 Corinthians 9:6, particularly in light of the authors life circumstances, involves reflecting on the themes of this verse and how they relate to the various aspects of their life. This verse says,

“Remember this: Whoever sows sparingly will also reap sparingly, and whoever sows generously will also reap generously.”

  1. Introduction:
    • Context of 2 Corinthians 9:6: In this verse, Paul is encouraging generosity, teaching that the blessings we receive are often proportional to what we give. This principle can be applied to various aspects of your life.
  2. As a Parent of Adult Children:
    • Sowing into Relationships: Your adult children, now with families of their own, still benefit from your wisdom and love. As you invest in these relationships, you’re not just giving advice or support, but you’re also modeling values and faith that can impact generations.
  3. Guiding Your Young Adult Twins:
    • Sowing into their Future: Your entrepreneurial experience is invaluable to your twins starting a business. Your guidance is like sowing seeds into fertile ground, providing them with knowledge and skills that will grow over time.
  4. Growing Your Own Business:
    • Sowing into your Dreams: Every effort you put into growing your company is like planting seeds for your future. It’s important to remember that growth often comes with challenges and requires patience and resilience.
  5. Navigating Legal Challenges:
    • Sowing Seeds of Justice and Perseverance: Facing a lawsuit, especially as a plaintiff, can be draining. This is a time to sow seeds of justice, standing firm for what is right, while also sowing seeds of peace within yourself, trusting in God’s timing and justice.
  6. Conclusion:
    • Harvest Time: Remember, the harvest doesn’t come immediately after sowing. It requires patience, faith, and continued nurturing. Your current challenges and efforts are your sown seeds, and in due time, you’ll see the fruits of your labor, in your family, your business, and your legal endeavors.

Short Story

“The Gardener’s Lesson”

Once in a small village, there lived an old gardener named Elias. He was known not only for his lush gardens but also for his wisdom. One day, a young woman, Maya, came to him, burdened with the complexities of life – a demanding career, a family, and her own aspirations that seemed to clash with each other.

Maya poured out her heart to Elias, seeking guidance. Elias listened intently and then asked her to walk with him through his garden. As they walked, he pointed to a blooming rose bush. “Do you see this rose bush? It was once a tiny seed, insignificant and unnoticed,” he said.

Maya nodded, wondering where this was going.

Elias continued, “This rose bush did not bloom overnight. It faced storms, scorching days, and even the threat of pests. Yet, with time, care, and patience, it grew into what you see today. Each part of this garden receives different care because their needs are different, just like the aspects of your life.”

Maya listened, her eyes fixed on the rose.

“The secret,” Elias said, “is not just in caring for them but in understanding that each part of the garden has its own time to bloom. Your career, your family, your personal goals – they are like different plants in this garden. Nurture them, but remember, they will bloom in their own time. Your task is to provide the right environment, the rest you leave to time and nature.”

As they walked back, Maya felt a light bulb moment. She realized she had been trying to force all aspects of her life to bloom simultaneously, not understanding that each part had its own season and time.

With a newfound perspective, Maya thanked Elias. She left the garden not with a solution to all her problems, but with the wisdom to understand the rhythm of life’s different aspects, just like the different plants in Elias’s garden.

Prayer:

Dear Heavenly Father,

In the quiet of this moment, I come before You with a heart seeking guidance and understanding. As I reflect on the story of the gardener and his wisdom, I am reminded of the beauty and diversity of Your creation. Each aspect of my life is like a unique plant in Your grand garden, each with its own season to bloom.

Lord, grant me the patience to nurture each part of my life according to Your will. Help me to understand that not everything will flourish at the same time. Teach me to invest in my family, my career, and my personal aspirations, trusting in Your perfect timing for each to grow and thrive.

In times of stress, when the responsibilities and challenges seem overwhelming, remind me of the rose in the gardener’s story. Just as it faces storms and scorching days, yet blooms beautifully in its time, help me to persevere through my own trials, trusting that You are nurturing me, even in the hardest times.

Give me the wisdom to provide the right environment for growth – not only for myself but for those around me. Let me be a source of encouragement, support, and love, fostering growth and harmony in my relationships.

And in moments of doubt or impatience, help me to remember the gardener’s lesson – that every part of my life has its own season to bloom. May I find peace in knowing that You are in control, and everything will come to fruition under Your sovereign hand.

Thank You, Lord, for Your unending grace and love. In Your holy name, I pray.

Amen.
