This book, Exodus, is traditionally attributed to Moses, who lived through these events. He wrote this to share the history and experiences of his people, capturing their suffering and struggles. Moses had a unique perspective, having been raised in Pharaoh's household yet knowing his true heritage. This detail about the Israelites being forced to work as slaves is crucial because it highlights the severity of their plight and the desperation that would lead them to cry out for help. The new Egyptian rulers, who don’t remember the favors shown to Joseph (one of the Israelites), see this growing population as a threat. So, they decide to enslave them, forcing them to work harder and harder. This verse marks a turning point: the Israelites go from guests to enslaved people. It sets the stage for their struggle and the birth of a powerful story about freedom that will unfold in the coming chapters. The tension is thick, and you can feel the urgency building towards the incredible deliverance that’s on the horizon.
