Imagine being a young woman, Mary, standing there in awe as an angel appears out of nowhere, delivering the most unbelievable news. In this moment, she hears that she will bring a child into the world who is destined for greatness. When she responds, 'I am the servant of the Lord; let it be to me according to your word,' it’s like she’s saying, 'I trust you, even though this is wild and scary.' You can feel the courage, the uncertainty, and the profound acceptance in her words. It’s a powerful moment of surrender and faith that invites you to think about how you respond when life asks you to step into the unknown.
This book, Luke, was written by a guy named Luke, who was a doctor and a keen observer of people. He wanted to tell the story of Jesus in a way that everyone could understand, especially those who might feel left out. By including Mary’s response, Luke highlights the incredible faith of an ordinary young woman. He wants you to see that anyone, no matter their background, can play a significant role in something much bigger than themselves.

Consider what it looks like for you to accept and embrace that challenge. Leading up to this verse, Mary has just encountered the angel Gabriel, who shares the shocking news that she will become the mother of Jesus. This is a huge deal! The tension is real: she's a young woman in a conservative society, engaged but not yet married.
