You can feel the weight of anticipation in the air as he prepares to speak on behalf of God, making the scene electric with expectation.
The book of Numbers is traditionally attributed to Moses, who wrote it as a record of the Israelites’ journey through the wilderness. Moses wanted to capture the experiences and lessons learned during this pivotal time for his people. By including Balaam’s prophecy here, he highlights how God’s voice can speak through unexpected channels, reminding the Israelites that their future is secure under God’s guidance, regardless of the threats around them. It’s a powerful testament to God’s sovereignty over nations and leaders.
This was written during the Israelites' journey through the desert, a time filled with uncertainty and challenge. Leading up to this moment, Balak, the king of Moab, is anxious. He’s witnessing the Israelites, a massive group, approaching his territory, and he’s scared they might overpower him. So, he calls Balaam, a renowned seer, hoping he could curse the Israelites to protect his land. Here, Balaam is about to deliver a message from God that will change everything. Instead of a curse, Balaam is compelled to bless the Israelites, flipping Balak’s intentions upside down. This moment is pivotal because it sets the stage for the unfolding of God’s plans for His people and reveals that His intentions can’t be thwarted by fear or human schemes.
