This moment doesn’t just happen in isolation. Leading up to this, Paul was doing amazing things in Ephesus—healing the sick, casting out evil spirits, and teaching boldly about Jesus. And just before this verse, something dramatic occurs: a group of exorcists tries to use Jesus’ name without truly knowing Him, and it backfires spectacularly! This failure adds to the atmosphere of awe and fear, making everyone realize that Jesus isn’t just a name to be tossed around. This verse marks a turning point where the people of Ephesus collectively recognize the authority and power of Jesus, setting the stage for a wave of transformation in their lives.
